Want to explore sunken ships, crashed planes, and lost treasures beneath the surface? Then the PADI Wreck Diver program is just what you want. To venture into PADI’s Wreck Diver program, you’ll need to be at least a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (Advanced Plus or equivalent,) and be at least 15 years old. During your PADI Wreck Diver program you'll go on four open water dives, which may be conducted over at least two days. This is where you'll put into practice the information you gained from listening to your instructor and from the PADI Wreck Diving Manual and video. Information contained in your program includes:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, and hazards of wreck diving
  • Preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines, and reels
  • Limited-visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures
  • Your adventures in Wreck Diving may count toward this Specialty certification at instructor discretion. This specialty can also be used as one of five Specialty certifications required for your Master Scuba Diver certification.

Wreck penetration-training dives are limited to within the light zone and within 40 metres/130 feet from the surface, vertical and horizontal distance included. If the wreck used for training is located in deep water (over 18 metres/60 feet), the Deep Diver rating is recommended as a prerequisite for the Wreck Diver program.
